Voodoo Farm - Roll Up (Wiz Khalifa & Tupac Remix)
Liam’s back with a gritty mashup of one of hip hop’s newest kings and (in my humble opinion) the genre’s Godfather. As is becoming his calling card, he’s put another video together, this time an intimate view into a couple’s ups and downs. Liam actually told me he cooked this up (track + video) two days and there’s really no question that this particular Wiz tune is better as a banger (sorry Wiz).
Voodoo Farm - Wheelz of Steel (feat. Outkast, Lady Gaga)
There’s something about Liam Dirlam that I really dig. I posted a few of his tracks back in February and expressed the way his tune catch my ear and this one is no different. He even sent an email with the wrong track and wrong links and I happened to read his second email first and was listening to it while I read his apology, and his note which just makes me a bigger fan:
“i don’t really mind people calling this a mash-up, but just so you know the only samples used in this song are the vocals. every note is played with our tiny little fingers and every sound texture was created by us… there are a ton of live instruments on this track including synths, percussion, vocals, and guitars.”
[rightclickdownload] and yet another killer video.
Mother Earth Remixes - And Then You (Tupac & Greg Laswell Mashup)
Greg Laswell is Ingrid Michaelson’s fiance. Killer voice, right? Tupac is, you know…my barometer for rap and/or hip hop. An artist I deeply respect and champion. Kudos to MER, who appears to be a student at Penn State, for putting these sounds together.
Michael Jackson - Jam (Ruben X’s Ratatat + Cut Copy Remix)
I was randomly reminded of MJ this week, and went out to see what kind of cutups are happening on the King of Pop lately. This little remix is a lot of fun, and features one of my absolute favorites, Ratatat. Can’t lose.
The Five One - Closing Time
Got this track this morning from a band I shared back in October. Seems they can’t get this track onto their upcoming release due to some legal hitches, which is a bummer because it’s a solid mashup/mix. I’m looking forward to REDBLUEGREENGOLD, due out soon, from a group I think is poised to really make some waves.
Potomic Boys Club - Lights (Ellie Goulding, Waka, & Wale Remix)
FIRST…this kid is so talented. Brenton Duvall has whaevert Girl Talk’s got: the ability to see the ways that disparite music fits together.
Housekeeping: none of the old music links work right now. More on that later.
This Brenton guy, for real, is literally a slugger. I heard this track and was wondering who the dude was, and then realized that I’ve already posted his tracks before. That’s like blind-tasting a glass of wine to excitement and hopefulness and finding out you’ve got a case in your basement.
BONUS:
The White Panda - Stereo Hands (Wale & Waka Remix)
I mean...tell me you’re not dancing.
Girl Talk - Let It Out
Finally, Gregg Gillis is back with All Day, which hits the internet for free download in its entirety. Girl Talk is a musical experiment that’s ignited all kinds of interesting conversations about music, ownership, sampling, and original art. His shows are epic, and if you haven’t been to one you should change that as soon as possible. As always, this album is a party for your ears. Get your hands on it.

Brenton Duvall - Mean Planes and Taylor Gangs (Wiz Khalifa & Taylor Swift Mashup)
I honestly never thought I’d live through a Taylor Swift song, but long live the mashup. No, for real I get that Taylor’s a pretty solid songwriter, but she’s not someone I listen to. Wiz, on the other hand, has my ear pretty much ever since he released his first mixtape and following freestyles. Check this track, because Brenton does what you should do with mashups…he creates a new tune. Also, judging by his last tweet he may be dealing some very positive or very negative attention.
Big Z - No Good With Faces (Jack Johnson & Too Short Mashup)
I mean. I miss Too Short. This is a savvy bumping mix among a handful of insightful remixes that I highly recommend you download. Big Z is a 16 year old in Philly named Zach who’s on his third release. Also of note, Too Short is still making albums, and he released his first album 14 years before Biz Z was born.
The Hood Internet - Chi City
The Hood Internet is one of the most interesting things that’s happened in music these last few years, and yes that’s probably a bit biased considering the way they swept Chicago and still show the city so much love. If you’re new to them, which many of you probably aren’t, you should spend some time with their mixes (mashups?)…they have a truly innovative take on putting music together. This track is from their upcoming release of original music…the first of its kind.
