Lupe Fiasco - American Terrorist III
Hat tip to Pigeons & Planes on pulling this totally unexpected release off of Lupe’s twitter. He leaked it this weekend and I love that it gives Kavinsky the honors of providing backup. If you don’t recognize it, the song’s from the soundtrack of Drive, a movie I consider among the best in years. Kudos Lupe…I still want something really brilliant from you soon but I’m definitely paying attention.
Lupe Fiasco - I Don’t Wanna Care Right Now (feat. MDMA)
The new Lupe album, LASERS, is getting slammed by critics. Interestingly, it’s getting slammed by Lupe himself; he’s had a heavily covered string of disputes with his label Atlantic Records who shelved this release for over two years because it wasn’t commercial enough. It’s a pretty shallow, pop-chart facing album, and it seems Lupe doesn’t even like it. There’s a good synopsis here, if you’re interested…if you just like listenable music I do recommend checking out the album, because despite the drama it’s definitely worth a listen.
Lupe Fiasco - Go To Sleep
I’m proud to call Lupe a Chicagoan, and can never wait to see what he throws at us next. This is rumored to be a track off of his next release, Food & Liqour II. It hit the web about 72 hours ago and has already made its way on to nearly every music blog I read, and it’s pretty damn smooth. Talk of this approaching album is a level of buzz I’m not sure I’ve witnessed in years.
Keith Masters - Nobody But Me
It’s always fun to speculate on who’ll be the next big thing from Chicago, following in the footsteps of mega success stories like Kanye and Lupe. Masters has a bit of a Kid Cudi thing going on, which can’t hurt his bid. I’m not sold, but this track’s pretty fun.
Lupe Fiasco - Happy Industries (as Lupe The Gorilla) [snag]
Taking it back a bit; I’ve been digging through my music library lately because I’m a little underwhelmed at the new releases at the moment. I don’t back up my music libraries, so it’s always interesting to see the musical point at which my hard drive last crashed. Oh, and about Lupe; genius + Chicago = grippy music.
